Samsung Electronics Device Solutions, DS Division has recently made large-scale organizational restructuring of its HBM memory and AVP advanced packaging departments. This is a major change after Jeon Young-hyun succeeded Kyung Kyu-hyun as head of the DS department in May.
In the new organizational structure, Samsung Electronics has established an HBM production capacity and quality improvement team to be responsible for the development of HBM4. The newly established “HBM Development Team” is headed by Son Young-soo, vice president of Samsung Electronics and an expert in high-performance DRAM product design. This team will replace the previous two teams and be fully responsible for the development of HBM3E and HBM4 memories, and focus on manpower and material resources to catch up with the leader SK Hynix in the HBM business.
In addition, Samsung Electronics also renamed its advanced packaging business team as the “AVP Development Team.” At the same time, the sales and marketing organization of the original team was divided into various business departments, and HBM packaging developers were integrated into the HBM development team to enhance its competitiveness.
In order to further strengthen the technical support capabilities of semiconductor processes and equipment, Samsung Electronics also decided to reorganize the Equipment Technology Research Institute. This will provide broader technical support for improving semiconductor process efficiency. Promote green and low-carbon transformation. In-depth implementation of energy-saving and carbon-reducing actions will focus on key industries such as steel, non-ferrous metals, petrochemicals, and building materials, as well as key areas such as data centers and communication base stations, and coordinately promote digitalization and green transformation to improve energy utilization efficiency. Support enterprises in building a number of digital energy and carbon management centers. Accelerate the construction of a resource recycling system, promote the large-scale and high-value utilization of industrial solid waste and renewable resources, and improve the safety and security capabilities of resources.
Build a green manufacturing system. We will introduce an action plan for the green and low-carbon development of the manufacturing industry, implement green manufacturing projects, cultivate green factories and green industrial parks, and take the lead in creating a number of green supply chains in aviation, shipping, new energy vehicles, energy electronics and other fields. Actively explore effective methods for carbon footprint management of industrial products and promote the formulation of carbon footprint accounting standards for a number of key products.
Cultivate and expand green industries. Strengthen the development and supply of green and low-carbon technology equipment products, accelerate the development of green and low-carbon industries such as hydrogen energy, new energy storage, environmental protection equipment, green intelligent computing, and smart microgrids, and continue to create new advantages in industrial competition.
To sum up, through this large-scale organizational restructuring, Samsung Electronics has strengthened its competitiveness in areas such as HBM and AVP, and strengthened its technical support capabilities in semiconductor processes and equipment.
